もし今、この地球に宇宙人がやって来たら、彼らは人間をどう見るだろうか。
毎朝決まった時間に起き、決まった道を通り、決まった仕事をする。
成功を目指しながら、失敗を恐れる。
周囲と同じであることに安心し、違うことに不安を感じる。
そんな私たちを見て、宇宙人は不思議に思うかもしれない。
「なぜ、みんな同じ方向を向いているのだろう」と。
私は時々、自分自身を宇宙人のような気持ちで眺めることがある。
世の中の常識を少し離れた場所から見る。
業界の慣習を疑ってみる。
「昔からこうだから」という理由を受け入れず、本当にそれが正しいのか考えてみる。
すると、不思議なことに今まで当たり前だと思っていたものが、急に不思議なものに見えてくる。
なぜ人は変化を恐れるのか。
なぜ挑戦する人は批判されるのか。
なぜ誰もが同じ答えを探そうとするのか。
宇宙人の視点で見れば、それらは決して当たり前ではない。
その代表例が、メジャーリーガー 大谷翔平選手かもしれない。
彼が高校卒業後にメジャーリーグ挑戦を公言した時、多くの人は無謀だと言った。
さらに投手と打者を両立する「二刀流」を続けると宣言した時も、専門化が当たり前だった野球界では懐疑的な声が少なくなかった。
「どちらかに絞るべきだ」
「そんなことは続かない」
「前例がない」
しかし大谷選手は、周囲の常識よりも自分の可能性を信じた。
結果として彼は、現代野球では不可能と言われていた二刀流を世界最高峰の舞台で実現し、その存在はルールそのものに影響を与えるほどになった。今では「大谷ルール」と呼ばれる制度まで生まれている。
もし宇宙人が地球に来たら、大谷選手を見てこう言うかもしれない。
「なぜ他の人は彼のように考えなかったのだろう」
歴史を動かしてきた人たちは、ある意味で宇宙人だったのかもしれない。
周囲と違う発想を持ち、違う景色を見ていた。
最初は理解されず、時には笑われる。
それでも自分の信じる道を進んだ結果、新しい常識を生み出していった。
ただ、人と同じ視点だけで生きていては、新しい発見は生まれないと思う。
だから時々、自分自身に問いかけてみる。
もし宇宙人だったら、この業界をどう見るだろう。
もし宇宙人だったら、この問題をどう解決するだろう。
もし宇宙人だったら、この挑戦を諦めるだろうか。
地球を外から眺めるように、自分を外から眺めてみる。
その瞬間、見えてくる景色がある。
私は宇宙人ではない。
しかし、少しだけ宇宙人の視点を持ち続けたいと思っている。
なぜなら、新しい未来は、いつだって「常識を疑う人」から始まるからだ。
そして多くの場合、その人は最初、周囲から宇宙人に見えるのである。

Aliens and Me
What would aliens think if they came to Earth today?
They would see people waking up at the same time every morning, taking the same routes, and doing the same jobs day after day.
They would see people striving for success while fearing failure.
They would see people finding comfort in fitting in and feeling uneasy about being different.
Looking at us, aliens might wonder:
"Why is everyone moving in the same direction?"
From time to time, I try to look at myself as if I were an alien.
I step back from common assumptions.
I question industry traditions.
Instead of accepting things simply because “that’s how they’ve always been done,” I ask whether they are truly the right way.
When I do, something interesting happens.
Things that once seemed perfectly normal suddenly appear quite strange.
Why are people afraid of change?
Why are those who challenge convention often criticized?
Why do so many people search for the same answers?
From an alien’s perspective, none of these things would seem obvious.
A perfect example might be Shohei Ohtani.
When he announced his ambition to play in Major League Baseball straight out of high school, many people called it unrealistic.
When he insisted on pursuing a two-way career as both a pitcher and a hitter, even more people doubted him.
Baseball had become a world of specialization.
People said:
"You need to choose one."
"It won't last."
"There is no precedent."
But Ohtani chose to believe in his potential rather than in conventional wisdom.
As a result, he accomplished what many believed was impossible in modern baseball. He succeeded as both an elite pitcher and hitter on the world's biggest stage, becoming such a unique force that the sport itself adapted. Today, baseball even has what is commonly known as the “Ohtani Rule.”
If aliens came to Earth, they might look at Ohtani and ask:
"Why didn't everyone think this way?"
Perhaps the people who change history are, in a sense, aliens themselves.
They see different possibilities.
They look at the world from different angles.
At first, they are misunderstood.
Sometimes they are even laughed at.
Yet they continue moving forward, and in doing so, they create new standards that others eventually follow.
Of course, I am not an alien.
But I believe that if we only see the world through the same lens as everyone else, we will never discover anything truly new.
That is why I often ask myself:
If I were an alien, how would I view this industry?
If I were an alien, how would I solve this problem?
If I were an alien, would I give up on this challenge?
When we step outside ourselves and look back from a distance, new perspectives emerge.
I am not an alien.
But I hope to keep a little of that alien perspective alive within me.
Because every new future begins with someone willing to question what everyone else accepts as common sense.
And more often than not, those people first appear to the world as aliens.
